Film & VideoRabun County has been a favorite backdrop of the silver screen for more than 50 years, hosting legions of famous film stars and legendary directors and producers. The area's deep forests, roaring rivers, and sweeping mountain vistas continue to set the stage for a variety of productions.
Film makers and production companies are drawn to Rabun County, and Georgia, because of a large and experienced crew base in the state, production resources, a vast array of locations, and largely permit-free shooting policies. Additionally, financial incentives such as The Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act grants a base tax credit to qualified productions, as well as additional credits for employing Georgia talent and shooting in underdeveloped counties. It is available not only to traditional motion picture projects such as feature films, television series, commercials and music videos, but also innovative new industries such as game development and animation. Another incentive, the Georgia Sales & Use Tax Exemption, offers significant savings for film, video, broadcast and music production companies working in Georgia. Qualified companies can get an immediate point-of-purchase sales tax exemption that will save productions up to eight percent on most below-the-line materials and service purchases or rentals. The Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Film, Video & Music Office, offers a wealth of information and assistance to production companies considering Georgia as a location, including a statewide image library.
